An expeditionary inspired charter school serving a diverse group of K-8 students in northern New Mexico.

Outdoor and ski programs

Semi-annual class camping trips engage students’ critical thinking skills, promote collaboration, and connect students to nature. The school also partners with Taos Ski Valley to offer free ski lessons in winter.

Food forest and gardens

Students get hands on experience while they learn about food sovereignty, sustainable and ecological gardening practices, and permaculture.

Award-winning student films

RWCS Students have won first-place awards at the Film Prize Junior, New Mexico three years running. Students collaborate with teachers and fellow students to write, direct, and produce their films.

School expansion underway

Roots and Wings Community School is expecting to add two portable buildings during the 2024-2025 school year. The project objectives are to expand classroom space and administrative offices, add a new art room, and additional bathroom facilities.

Get involved

There are so many ways for parents and community members to get involved at RWCS — from volunteering in the classroom to being a bus chaperone or serving on the Governance Council.

RWCS students are engaged, self-reflective, and active citizens, pursuing academic excellence, an attitude of service, and the compassionate behaviors that cultivate connection to the unique agricultural, cultural, and linguistic heritage of Northern New Mexico.
